Focus less the race face

Its been a little while since my last blog, with the main update being the fact that I am readily knocking up 3 hours plus riding sessions every Wednesday.

I have to say its starting to get a lot easier and coupled with my Gym work & swimming at Everyone Active in Weymouth I am feeling pretty darn good on a bike which is pretty handy.

One thing I have had to work on though is pacing myself.  Having raced and been competitive as a kid, I have been having big issues with regards to this.  When I was younger, it didn't matter what I did I had to race it, win it, beat it or compete against it.  This is all well and good and I suppose I am competing for the World Record but in this instance I need to use the tactics of the tortoise, and pace myself so that I don't burn out early.  I think this is going to be easier when I am doing the record attempt but trying it in practice hasn't been easy, as when there are others on the track it is in my instincts to race them, try and catch them or pull away.

I have been working on it quite a bit though, and I have a stopwatch on my bar pad so I can time my laps and make sure I am being consistent, but also not going to quick and use up too much energy.

That's the other thing I am having to learn, and that is riding smoothly, at a pace without using energy which is easier said than done. Again this all comes with its own problems.  When I am timing my laps,  the hours seem to go on forever.  When I am cruising and not challenging myself to go quicker I find it easy to loose focus and concentration.  So finding the right balance is the next task, but so far so good.

In the next week or so, I will be able to announce some really exciting news, that I can't wait to get out there.

Don't forget if you would like to support the record attempt by donating to the charities the link to the donation page is uk.virginmoneygiving.com/24hoursofmx

We will be also be needing help in quite a few other areas like lap scoring, and general track prep.... so if anyone would like to get involved and become part of the team give me a call on 07917 117007

I can also be followed on twitter @24hoursofmx
